Digital TV viewers on the rise

According to the latest figures from media watchdog OFCOM, nearly three quarters of UK households now watch digital television.
The latest quarterly figures released by the watchdog show that digital TV is viewed on the main TV in 73.3% of homes. This equates to a rise of approximately 800,000 over the last three months.
A total of 18.5 million homes have digital TV installed, with greater numbers watching on second or third sets. Of these figures 9.3 million households watching digital TV from terrestrial providers such as Freeview.
Considerably more households are watching digital TV rather than analogue, which has 6.4 million viewers on the main TV set.
The switchover from analogue to digital TV is schedule to start in 2007 and be completed nationwide by 2012.
