Biometrics is the measurement and analysis of the human body. We all have biometric characteristics particular to us which are shared with no other person, these include our fingerprints, the surface of the iris, voice patterns and DNA.
The cutting edge of access control uses these characteristics to produce technology to allow or deny individuals to access to a room or building. It is information which is extremely difficult to replicate and therefore offers some of the highest levels of security.
This does not however mean it is beyond the reach of the average business, there are a range of fingerprint and iris recognition systems which are in regular use and very affordable. One such example is fingerprint door locks for Hotel rooms.
