DAB stands for Digital Audio Broadcasting, which is in essence digital radio. It requires a DAB enabled radio to process the information into an audible broadcast. Along with the increased level of sound quality produced by DAB transmissions there is an added benefit of Data which can be used for programme guides, broadcast channel information and even still pictures.
DAB aerials are directional, which means they must always be pointed towards a transmitter and in the UK they are always mounted vertically.
